What is a doula?

A doula A.K.A "birth angel" is a trained professional who provides hands on physical, emotional and informational support to a pregnant woman before during and after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest most positive experience possible.
Benefits of having a doula before labor :

The doula uses this time to form a special relationship with the mother where she can ask questions, express her fears / concerns, and help her create a birth plan. Doulas are available virtually and / or in person. Some may take s walk with you and some may coach you through a virtual yoga class, meditation or breathing techniques.
Benefits of having continuous doula support during labor :

Studies have demonstrated that the physical presence of a doula decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40% and requests for an epidural by 60%.
Benefits of having a doula during delivery:

Doulas are in close contact with the mother. They have the ability to provide comfort with pain relief techniques including breathing techniques, relaxation techniques, massage, and laboring positions. A doula also acts as the mother's advocate. After birth, doulas will help new mothers begin the breastfeeding process and encourage bonding.
